Officials have identified the woman who died after falling from a balcony aboard a Carnival cruise ship near Catalina Island as Briana Miller, age 24, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
The incident occurred on April 27, 2026, aboard the Carnival Firenze, which had departed from Long Beach and was sailing on a five-day voyage between Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico.
According to Carnival Cruise Line, Miller reportedly fell from the balcony of her stateroom and landed on a lower deck of the ship. Her family, who were traveling with her, alerted crew members immediately after the incident.
The circumstances surrounding her fall remain under investigation. Law enforcement boarded the vessel while it was docked near Catalina Island to assist in reviewing the incident.
Carnival confirmed that its care team is providing support to Miller’s family, who have since disembarked and returned home.
Officials have not released an official cause of death as the investigation continues.
The tragedy has left her family and fellow passengers in shock as authorities work to determine exactly what occurred in the moments leading up to the fall.
