A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the Denham Springs community following the death of Katy Wells, a longtime crossing guard who was struck and killed while helping children safely cross the street.
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on April 30 along Louisiana Highway 16, as Wells was directing traffic in front of Gray’s Creek Elementary School at the end of the school day. Authorities say she was hit by a driver believed to be impaired.
